In the wireless telecommunication service , 4G is an abbreviated term to the fourth generation technology. Before the arrival of 4G technology, cellphone users had to witness multifarious issues related to the data transmission speed or accessing quality internet similar to the home PC, but the high quality data transfer capability of 4G over heterogeneous networks has finally enabled us to enjoy broadband-like experience on mobile phones.
4G aims at providing better and faster web browsing experience. While 3G only offers 600kb to 1.4mbps transmission speed contrast to the 4G speed of 2-3 Mbps. This corresponds to ten time faster speed than its preceding technology. Succinctly, 4g allows smooth and faster data transfer at unimaginably speed for cellphones.
Although 4G equates with the same technology in different telephony systems, the underlying technology differs. For instance, Sprint Nextel uses mobile wireless broadband access known as UniMax technology while Verizon wireless broadband uses Long Term Evolution or LTE technology to deliver unstrained speed.
How 4G is an advanced technology?
Each generation of the technology has successfully transcended the previous one. A time when 2G was introduced to the cellular technological sphere, it was the improved version of 1G analog. It allowed better digital transmission contrary to the previous analog system. Later in times, 3G introduced cellular internet connectivity and improved multimedia functions, the 4G technology added new techniques such as upgraded transmission speed.
4G devices allow downloading from low sized document to larger files at better transmission speed. Even though accessing data faster than PC is still a bigger challenge ahead, but 4G cellular services promise more than satisfactory results to its users. It is capable of connecting to almost every possible network available. However, there still remain the similar security threats as its previous counterparts. While these devices provide upgraded internet accessing and better speed, isolating and detecting unknown problems (if any) has become more challenging and complex.
How 4G works?
Each node is assigned to a particular IP address in the 4G wireless network. When the 4G device asks for the communication over the network, the 4G IP address of the cellphone receives the targeted packet data from the permanent IP address of the computer. Sequentially, the next packet is received over the cellphone network as the communication continues. . Previously, the 3G technology used IPV4 address, which is replaced IPV6. Many networks such as UniMax network system (Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access) and LTE (Long Term Evolution) work as data transmitter for receiving and sending data.
Benefits of 4G
With 4G wireless network, one can access internet from anywhere, whether h/she is at home or somewhere in the remote. But unfortunately, 4G technology is limited to certain cities only and is still expanding its horizon.
Few years back, when only laptops were considered reliable portable source for internet connectivity, 4G phones allow faster internet access and are adequately smaller in terms of portability.
Accessing web-browsing experience has become more simplified and flexible to meet our desirability for high speed internet. Streaming and downloading movies and large files can be done at ten time faster rate than its predecessor 3G complying to no pixilated images while watching videos online.
Some Smartphones That Allow 4G connectivity
HTC EVO 4G was the world’s first 4G smartphone that allowed smooth 4G connectivity, provided that the cellphone user is using 4G service. Now, there are many cellular companies that offer a wide range of 4G enabled sets including Apple’s IPhone, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung smartphone and T-Mobile.
