How To Add Google+ As A Search Engine In Chrome

Google+, not even 6 months old, has already attracted 18 million users as per the results of independent analysis by experts. It is obvious that this massive popularity is surely due to its unique and appealing features such as Circles, +Snippet, and Hangouts.

However, it is hard to get hold of the fact that there are yet some vital things that need to be included or sorted out in Google+. Among these things, the most demanded one is the Search box.

Perhaps, it is the absence of this search box that frustrates the users of Google+ the most. It is high time for Google+ to take this requirement as immediate need! But, the question is, what the users should do meanwhile? Well, there is a solution to this as well! Nope, I am not talking about using a third-party tool or changing a setting in Google+. So, are you excited to know about the solution? Well, then do continue reading!

Google+ Has Restricted Its Search Ability

At present, the search capabilities of Google+ are so limited that you have only two search criterion or parameters namely, search by people and name. This means that the users are not allowed to search by other parameters such as by text in a post or keyword in a profile.

You Can Broaden The Search Ability Of Google+

The only way to do so is to include a custom search engine in your Chrome browser. Technically, you add Google+ as your search engine to the browser. By doing so, you can literally search for anything in Google+ right from the Address bar of your Chrome browser. This means you need not even have to open your Google+ page. Isn’t that cool?

While performing the steps, you actually enable search for two things: post and profile. Doing so will take only some minutes. Here are the steps to do so in Chrome.

1. Open the Chrome browser.

2. Right-click the Address bar. A shortcut menu is displayed.

3. Select the Edit search engines option. The Search Engines page is displayed by superimposing the Options page.

4. Scroll down to the bottom unless a row of empty boxes is displayed.

5. In the Add a new search engine box, enter Google+ Posts.

6. In the Keyword box, enter post.

7. In the URL with %s in place of query box, enter {google:baseURL}search? inurl:posts/* %s. This will enable the Search for Post feature on your browser.

8. Move the focus to a new row of blank boxes for enabling the Search for Profile feature.

9. In the Add a new search engine box, enter Google+ Profiles.

10. In the Keyword box, enter profile.
