I hardly find a reason for not using Gmail. As per a survey Gmail is the most popular mail client if it is compared to Yahoo, AOL or Hotmail. If we talk about professional mail client, outlook comes into picture. In this article I will walk you through step by step to add your Gmail account to outlook 2007. There are two methods:
First Method of Adding your Gmail account to Outlook 2007
Make sure POP (Post Office Protocol) is enabled in your Gmail account. To confirm it open your Gmail account and click on options on the top right hand side and then click on mail settings.
Now to enable POP (Post Office Protocol) click on “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab and click on radio button which says “Enable POP for all mail”. Now open Outlook 2007 and go to Tools and click on Account Settings.
Now, you have to choose E-mail tab and click on New. Enter your name, Gmail address, and password then click next.
Note: “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” should be unchecked.
Now to end the task click on finish and you have successfully configured Gmail account in your outlook 2007. Now to check if everything is OK send a test email to you. If it comes through that means we have done it successfully.
Second Method of Adding your Gmail account to Outlook 2007
Method 2 comes into picture if outlook 2007 does not take server information automatically. To get rid of this put a check mark on “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” and complete following details:
Under user information: Fill your name and Gmail address
Under server information: Select Account type as POP3, Incoming mail server is pop.gmail.com and Outgoing mail server is smtp.gmail.com
Under Logon Information: Fill in your complete Gmail address as User name and its password
After filling all the above information click on More Settings button. Now put a check mark on “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” under outgoing server tab. Click on Advanced tab and put a check mark besides the box that says
“This server requires an encrypted connection(SSL)”, then make changes in Incoming Server (POP3). It should be 995. Put a check mark besides the box that says “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)”. Outgoing Server (SMTP) should have a numeric value 587.
Through drop down box make changes in encrypted connection to auto. Now close the dialog box and finish the wizard. We are done! Now to check if everything is OK send a test email to you. If it comes through that means we have done it successfully.
I am a true fan of Gmail as I can use it for sending/receiving emails, chatting with my friends or relatives. Though I can use it at work but as a professional I stick to Outlook only and fortunately I have configured Gmail account to Outlook 2007 at work and at home also. If you have any other method to add Gmail account to Outlook 2007 please do share with us. Till than Happy Mailing!!!
