How To Crop Pictures In Word, Excel, And PowerPoint 2010

By on September 12, 2011

If you come across to a situation where you want to remove the useless part of a picture in your Microsoft Office 2010 documents (Word, Excel, and power point) here is the procedure.

How To Crop Pictures In MS Word 2010

Insert a picture by clicking on picture button under Insert tab. As soon as picture gets inserted Format tab under Picture Tools will be appeared.

If it does not appear then you can click on the inserted image. Under Format tab click on Crop. You would come into cropping mode and using your mouse you can drag and drop, to remove the unwanted area in the picture, from any of the four corners or from any of the four sides.

In office 2007, when we used to crop any picture the unwanted part became unseen, which could make it tough to rapidly see the finest way of cropping a picture. The new thing that I observed in office 2010 is that the cropped area would remain there in semi-transparent form until you accept the changes. To accept this term, click anywhere on the document.

Note: If you want that the picture should be cropped from all four sides/corners evenly than use CTRL key along with your mouse and start dragging from any of the corners or sides.

If you do not want to use mouse to crop an image, Right click on image and fill numeric values in width and height boxes as per your requirements.

You can also use Aspect ratio feature to make cropping easier. For example if I use 1:1 as an aspect ratio it will crop my picture from left and right side in equal proportion.

New In Office 2010

Here is something new and interesting in office 2010. Usually a picture comes in either square shape or rectangle but if I want my cropped picture to be molded in a particular shape? Well in that case click on your picture and then click crop, and select a shape from available shapes.

Your picture will be cropped in your desired form. Moreover, it also allows you to add shape effects to excel your picture. Fill and Fit are other fantastic features in Office 2010 when it comes to cropping a picture. Fill option, under Crop, will level the picture to entirely pack the shape. Fit option will level the picture so that it syncs completely within the shape.

How To Crop Pictures in Excel and Power Point 2010

Cropping pictures in excel and power Point 2010 will remain same as Word 2010. There is nothing new that can be written in this article for excel or power point.

Final Words

No doubt we have mspaint as an option to crop a picture or dialogue box but Office 2010’s crop feature looks awesome. Upgrading from Office 2007 to Office 2010 is really an achievement for windows. Later version has lots of user friendly features.

In Office 2007 we did not have feature of molding picture to desired shape, fill and fit options after cropping. Slowly and gradually we are moving towards office 2010. I would be more than happy if you come up with any question or comment on this article. Keep posting, Till than Happy Office 2010!!!
