How To Eliminate Header Text In WordPress

Eliminating the header text is the most common problem that people face while customizing their wordpress document. Not many bloggers are happy about displaying the title of their site in the header box. The reason is that bloggers often use the header within the header image itself.

This eliminates the need to use header separately.

Let us take a look at some of the ways in which the header text can be removed.

1. Go to Options Page and Remove the Title Category For The Blog.

Start by logging in to your wordpress account – click Options tab –locate “Weblog Title” box– delete the text in the box – click “Update Options”.

However, this method will throw up some unwanted issues. The Search Engine (along with your site visitor) will be unable to read the title of your wordpress blog. The first thing search engine spiders look for when they crawl to your site is the Title of the site that is encoded within <h1> and </h1> tags. If your title cannot be read by the search engine, your website will not be shown during search results.

Another problem with this method is the absence of Title in the top bar of the browser. So, if the user has opened many windows he/she will be unable to find the window to your website because of lack of title.

If you use this method for deleting the header text, the feeds of your site will not display the title. This is a problem in case the visitor uses RSS Feeds; he/she will be unable to view the title of your website.

2. Another Method of Deleting The Header Text is by Removing it From Header.hp

Users who know their way around a website will most likely go to the theme directory in order to access the header.php.

The line that shows the title in the header box looks like
<h1><a href=”<?php bloginfo(‘siteurl’);?>/” title=”<?php bloginfo(‘name’);?>”><?php bloginfo(‘name’);?></a></h1>

It is this line that needs to be eliminated. This will make the title in the header box disappear.

However, this approach has a problem similar to the first approach; the search engine will be unable to read the title of the website.

3. Hide The Header Text Using CSS Style Definition

The problem of hiding the title of the website is very common. However, it isn’t as simple as we thought given the issues that we face with the above given methods.

So, another method we can try is the CSS Style definition solution.

#header h1 { display:none }
Do this at the end of style.css. Save it.

Click on the refresh button to check whether the title has disappeared from the header box or not. If the title is still being displayed in the header text then clear the cache of your browser and click on refresh tab again.
This method does not have any issues unlike the first two approaches that we tried for eliminating the header text in the wordpress. Hence, this is the best approach.

This approach works well for almost all the wordpress themes. If there is any theme that the method does not work for, then get in touch with the creator of that theme for support.
