Gtalk revolutionized instant messaging (IM) with its simple and hassle free interface. Google’s USP has usually been to introduce functionality through simplicity in sectors overcrowded with confusing applications.
Linking Google+ to Social Network Sites
Though Google has forayed into social networking, Facebook soon overtook their initial services, Orkut and Google Buzz. Google+, one of their latest tools to let people network in a very customized and efficient manner, has now replaced both.
Google+ is in fact, an integration of Google profiles and Google buzz. The new features introduced in Google+ are the customizable contact Circles, Hangouts and Sparks. An important feature that differentiates Google+ from other products is the integration of social networking with Gmail. This has enabled social networking take on a more serious role of enabling people and corporates collaborate and share ideas and conduct semi-formal brain storming sessions instantaneously over the internet.
Currently, world-wide Gmail users number around 193 million. It would be natural for Google to aim at capitalizing on this number by driving its visitors with the new Gmail- Google+ theme, enabled by the ‘real time bar’.
Linking Google+ to your Gmail account
The salient services offered by Google like web-search, books, images, orkut etc. are accessible in a single bar at the top of the browser window. Google+ simply integrates into the existing bar. The real time bar enables users to view live feeds from Google+ while using Gmail and seamlessly switch between both if necessary. The idea is to view notifications or post an update without switching from Gmail. A registered person with Google+ will find his profile displayed in the top bar. The display would show the Google+ profile name that can be adopted as the user desires.

Steps to Link Google+ to Gmail
The Right side of the bar displays instant notifications of your friends’ activities. Apart from the email notification, instantaneous live updates are available on the top bar. The color scheme is such that new notifications and older ones can be differentiated at a glance and also be customized as per the viewing patterns of the user.
Without going to Google+, you can share/post images, links and Google map locations etc, with a single click , never needing to log out or switch from the gmail application. The notification button provides all the details and functions that one would need to view/share a post.
Annoying posts or comments can be switched off by customizing the notification settings. Circles or individual profiles/ contact requests can be accessed right from the main Gmail window using the real time bar.
Google+ appears to be a promising networking tool. However, concerns of security and unwanted data like casual photographs/posts being mixed with your professional do exist. It remains to be seen if Google can iron out these flaws and reclaim the crown of social networking.
