Use Your Phone As A WiFi Hotspot

If your phone comes with WiFi capabilities, then you can use your phone as a WiFi hotspot and share your internet connection with your computer. In order to do this, you will need to download the “WiFi Hotspot” app on your phone. This is a free app that can be downloaded through the Android Market.

Set the “Router Name” option in the app to any name of your choice that will enable you to identify your phone’s internet connection. Set the “Security” option to be WPA (TKIP), and configure a password of your choice in order to secure the network. This app has the option to turn your phone on as a portable WiFi hotspot.

Once this is enabled, try to detect your phone in the list of wireless networks detected by your computer based on the “Router Name” that you had earlier specified in the app. When you click on it, you will be prompted to enter the password. Once this is done, your internet connection will be shared with your computer and you can use your phone as a modem.

Administrator access is required in order to install the drivers required, if any, on your computer. When you connect your Android phone to the computer, the status bar of most phones will display the connected functionally of your phone – whether it is charging or whether it has been mounted as a disk drive.

Tapping on the status bar will give you a choice to change the way your phone acts when it is connected to the computer, for just that particular time. Tap “Enable USB Tethering”. You computer will now detect your phone and will automatically connect you to the internet.
